George II Farm Limited
Acreage: 110 acres under cultivation
Family farm rooted in history The original land grant is dated 1796, the year when Bill George Jr’s ancestors were granted 250 acres of crown land. Over time, sections were parceled off until 110 acres of the original grant remained. Today, the entire acreage is planted with wine grapes. "It’s a good place raise a family. I think it comes down to values", Bill said when asked why he has chosen to be a farmer. Besides, having six generations of farmers in your background is bound to have an impact of your choice of career! Taking care of the environment has always played a key role in the George family operation. Today, Bill applies an environmental plan when it comes to things like fuel and fertilizer storage and crop spraying. He highlighted the use of a recycling sprayer that has been designed to catch ‘spray drift’ adding that in the first year alone the new equipment saved 60 per cent on his spray bill!
